Seek Forgiveness from Ar-Rahmaan & Ar-Raheem

According to a hadith, Allahโ€™s Messenger (PBUH) said, โ€˜There are ninety-nine names of Allah; whoever recites them will enter Paradise.โ€™ [AL-Bukhari and Muslim]ย His names are known as AI-Asmaaโ€™ al-Husnaa [The Most Beautiful Names].

These names express the Attributes of Allah. They lend us the proper understanding of our relationship with our Creator who is Ar Rahmaan. They also help us shape our lives accordingly.

However, the most repeated names of Allah are Ar-Rahmaan. (The Most Compassionate) and Ar-Raheem (The Most Merciful).ย They form part of Bismillah with which all the surahs of the Quran, except Surat at-Tawbah (surah nine), begin with.

Both these words come from the root word โ€˜rahimaโ€™. Both the words Ar-Rahmaan meaning and Ar-Raheem meaning shows the mercifulness of Allah, the great Creator. These attributes of Allah are often translated in many verses of the Quran as the Most Merciful, Most Compassionate, Beneficent , Most Gracious, Mercy Giving, or the Caring.

Difference between Ar-Rahmaan and Ar-Raheem

  • It is important to note here that the translation of these both words do not convey the full meaning of the terms. They do not show the deep differences between the Ar-Rahmaan meaning and Ar-Raheem meaning.
  • The word ar-Rahmaan shows overflow, outburst, and strong feelings. On the other hand the word Ar-Raheem denotes permanence and everlasting qualities of mercy.
  • Hence, Ar-Rahmaan is the One whose mercy is overflowing, whereas Ar-Raheem is the One whose Mercy is everlasting. Our lives are dependent on Allahโ€™s Mercy. His Mercy doesnโ€™t depend on the intensity of our shortcomings and sins .We are imperfect and commit sins again and again but being a Muslim we should not lose hope of Allahโ€™s Mercy and Forgiveness as if He is Forgiving and Merciful.

Spiritual Benefits of Ar-Rahmaan for Us:
